SGM(R) Charles “Charlie” G. Mohr, 82, passed away on 8 January 2021 in Cincinnati, OH.
Charlie was born in 1938 and raised in the Cincinnati area. He enlisted into the US Army at the age of 18 with a strong desire to become a paratrooper. He completed Basic Training at Ft. Knox and was then assigned to the 44th Tank Bn. He transferred into A Co. 2nd Airborne Battle Group of the 505th Infantry Regiment and attended Airborne School at Ft. Bragg in 1957. He would complete Jumpmaster School while serving in Germany. Upon returning to the US, he was assigned to C Co., 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Division. In April of 1961, Charlie entered the US Army Reserves where he served for 25 years. He spent time with D Co., 2nd SF and C Co., 2nd Bn, 11th SFG(A). His awards and decorations included Army Accommodation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Sharpshooters Medal, and German Airborne Wings.
Charlie was an active member with the SFA Chapter 45, often attending monthly meetings in both Columbus and Cincinnati. He also attended the SFA National Conventions quite often. He will be missed. Charlie was employed for over 40 years with the National Distillery/Jim Beam Company. He enjoyed roller skating, golfing, skiing and shooting his M1 at the range.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; son Charles; daughter Pamela; and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Cincinnati.
